Adam Burgess testifies at the Allison Inquiry about the final hours he spent at his sister Christy’s bedside. He says he whispered a secret into her ear — that he and his partner were expecting a child — and describes how a single tear ran down her cheek. He says he is still haunted by the thought that she could hear him. When he directly asked hospital staff whether she would recover, he says they told him it was not looking good. Christy was then medevaced to Vancouver; their mother went alone due to COVID restrictions. The next day, the family was told Christy would not wake up. Adam says he fell to his knees in his living room and could not stand. He adds: "That’s no way to grieve. You have to grieve with your family."
