Julie Ivan describes waking up numb from the chest down — unable to feel the need to use the bathroom — and driving from northern Ontario to St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, where an MRI revealed a spinal lesion. She says she was told the vaccine caused her immune system to attack her spine. Treatment involved high-dose prednisone — reportedly 1,500 mg IV followed by around 23 pills a day — yet two pharmacies initially refused to fill the prescription. Today, she says her legs are numb below the knee, her hands and head tingle daily, and she has moved to an indoor role unloading mail trucks because uneven outdoor surfaces are no longer manageable. The inquiry asks: what solutions exist for patients in this situation?
